I would be inclined to agree with this were it not for my experience in uni. A lot of the abstract algebra concepts I simply cannot get my head around without the aid of? a picture, yet I find dealing with 4 dimensional space and hyperbolic space much easier than those who find abstract algebra easy. It's not exactly the same as VAK, but similar in that sometimes a teaching method can work really well on some, while not work at all on others.

I must write down lectures in note form and organize them on a page so my eye can organize the information for recall. I think that people will only ACCESS their information stored inside the brain either visually, kinesthetically or what ever. This would be their preferred representational system in which they could access the information. For example, if a person has a representational system of being visual, a better way of teaching? him would be saying : Can you see it clearly? Do you see the full picture? Likewise an auditory person would understand better by telling him : Does that sound right etc.

It'd be great to hear/read what wonderful scents your college found work best with what subjects. I'm sure the college has a great deal of research to validate the academic use of odours. Of course, the college management had no trouble getting the funds approved to place scent generators in every classroom and common area. Similar studies have been conducted with more meaningful material, but I would also argue that your question represents a bad way to think about it. You've more or less said "you haven't disproved it with more complex material. . . ." implying that VAK is? therefore believable. Rather than asking for evidence that it's been disproved, you should offer evidence that it's been proved. If it hadn't been tested at all, that's not a good reason to believe it.

...Your video mostly focused on disproving VAK by? looking at the memorization aspect of learning, but it didn't really focus on disproving the understating/comprehension part of it. You'll need to use more complex examples than atom/solar system because that is a pretty simple concept to understand and it won't really push people into resorting to whatever learning method works best for them and thereby won't see any evident patterns/correlations (if they do exist).

Learning isn't only just about acquiring single units of knowledge, but also about the comprehension of the functions of a unit and how they interact with other units. Depending on the situation, some people only need to listen/read in order to comprehend meanwhile others need visual assistance or need to physically tinker with things themselves? in order for everything to click. And if you really think about it, the learning that we take for granted (like "what are the shape of a German Shepard's ears?") is usually coded visually. But the bottom? line is, he's right- what we want children to learn is meaning! We WANT to know facts in order to be able to think critically and creatively! Where its possible to understand a concept like a house in various ways why not just go with what your best at? It makes me sad and? distressed to see so many negative replies on what is a very positive video. At no point i did I hear one educator suggest that we should not help students learn to read or write, or to learn Math, and yet that seems to be the fear. It certainly does not mean that traditional teachers wont be needed or that people can be replaces with "machines". But with new technology, we have a responsibility to really look at how? we might make learning more inspiring, more related to what learners already know and more related to what they are interested in.

I think learning styls exists but no one is spicifically tied to one group. I am mostly tactile (the lighter side of kinesthetic) my self. However, I can learn by audio and visual but it takes me longer to get the point unless I have alot of interest. I find that my strongest learning method is by doing the task my self. Most things that I touch I will have almost a photographic memory of instantly. If I read something or listen to someone yammer on? it will require several attempts to remember.

In the US we have mandatory education, 'No Child Left Behind', and a curriculum designed to push students into college. College costs are rising dramatically as funding is being cut? (ie, students borrow from their future income to go to school). I fully agree that education needs an overhaul. Civic and social competency by 8th grade, alternatives to college, and education as a right not duty. Technology should be used to democratize learning, making available globally.

Stop pushing technology. It was a progressive marketing ploy when Apples arrived in every classroom. If you want 21st Century HUMANS to be proficient learners, show them how to teach themselves-. Show them how to COMPREHEND text & voice. Encourage them to ask WHY and How and to dig in all the media sources until they can answer it. there is always a teacher. For some a book combined with their own self-reflection is the teacher, for others they need more guidance and encouragement from a human teacher. You do not learn without a teacher (just realize the teacher is sometimes? a combination of information & self guidance). The problem is that books and computers as information delivery systems cannot be as flexible as a human being for many reasons - emotional, sensory, feedback, etc.

I loved the video. For sure, people learn more by doing things themselves rather than by being told about them. Secondly, learners are intelligent, fully functioning humans, not simply receptacles for passed-on-knowledge. Learning is not simply a one-dimensional intellectual activity, but involves the whole person. Thus the message taken away from any one lesson is quite different? for different people.

Sometimes there's such a thing as too much jargon. Function objects -> The language isn't object oriented so they use functions as objects and all them function objects. Hang behavior off -> "smart" way to say it can "tell" stuff how to? do stuff. You don't have it tell stuff what to do by extending public api -> you don't add everything it could possibly do to a resource for portraying what it can do. There's too much. Scope is like blinders for a horse for the program/components.
