You realise, parrots love being the centre of attention and also love to be challenged? This bird most likely had a better life than most companion parrots. He had constant attention and companionship, was constantly mentally active and being fed the best foods possible. What do you constitute a loving home? One where the birds cuddled for a couple hours then left alone? while it's "flock" is gone to work/school etc etc??

Prior to his death, Irene Pepperberg recalls the bird said: "You be good. I love you." She responded, "I love you, too." The bird said, "You'll be in tomorrow," and she? responded, "Yes, I'll be in tomorrow." Alex was apparently in good health the day prior, and at his physical two weeks earlier. He died at 31, at least two decades less than the average lifespan for African Grey Parrots. The cause of death remains unknown.

sure, every single? parrot deserves to live in his natural environment, but as long as humans think that animals can't feel&think, and use such arguments to justify that it's okay to treat them like shit, to let them live in cages for their whole life, where they cannot even turn around, just because everyone wants his meat without hunting for it in a fair way, it will never be like it should. Alex made a lot of people think different about animals, and that's great.

He's molting. There is no evidence of concentrated feather plucking in this bird. If? he was missing a large patch of feathers, then we could make such a diagnosis. But based on his appearance, he appears to simply be going through a standard molt.

This video really makes me mad, I know for a fact that parrot did not enjoy his life look at how many feathers this poor bird is missing! I feel sorry for poor Alex. Maybe in his death he has found the peace that he wanted to as in "can I go back". It does not appear he was loved by Dr. Pepperberg. She used him to her own advantage. In one of the videos, she is called his "owner"... I have 3 birds and I do not consider myself as their "owner"... I am their "Mother". If Alex is so intelligent, and he knows he wants to go back, Then Dr. Pepperberg is not respecting him. She is abusing him..! And why did? he pluck? Was he happy??
